Mike's Musings

I'll be posting my musings from time to time on various subjects some just because I feel like it, others because I'm mad, still others because I want to make the world a better place. Now that the "d" is done, it's time to move on to other things. I'm reminding myself that life is just too short to focus on just one thing.

The Forcing of Beliefs on the American People is a BAD THING!!!!!!!

Well, as an overall moderate, I am tired of the conservatives and the liberals and their extremist viewpoints. I don't mind that they vocalize them, but what I do mind is that they try and force them upon me and others. The thing that makes America great is that we allow the freedom of ideas and expression and most of all the ability to CHOOSE whether or not to follow those convictions. I don't care that (insert your favorite topic here) is wrong/morally apprehensible/etc., because I don't have to choose to see/do/eat/etc. it (but I can if I want to). But when you do not allow me to have that choice its like when you tell a child that candy is bad for you--it makes the kid want it that much more, and they'll usually (not always, but frequently) go and do it just out of spite! No, the real way to get people to come around is to give them all of the correct information (both good AND bad) on both sides of any given topic and then let the person MAKE THEIR OWN INFORMED DECISION! Let them live with that decision, even if you don't agree with it, because it's not about you...it's about them!

I'm making the switch...sort of...

Well, a few posts ago, I told you I'm going back to school. Well, I've discovered that after 8 intense weeks of classes that my work laptop which I was using to do my classwork on was getting slammed with all kinds of spyware crap! Well, since I'm supposed to be the hardware support guy, I decided it was time to look into a Mac as a replacement instead of a PC. I ordered one and so far, I'll say I'm impressed. It's fast, stable, it's got pretty good graphics and the best thing it works with my new digital 26" LCD display that I got this past summer (which didn't work with my PC even though it had a DVI card)! My only gripes so far are that the keyboard and mouse leave much to be desired (I miss my ergonomic keyboard/mouse), and that there isn't Microsoft Access for Mac, and for some odd reason, it won't work with my cable modem (Hopefully I'll get it fixed before new year's.). Other than that, I'm enjoying my time on my Mac (I'm even writing this entry from it). Since I'm the tech support "guru" for the computers at the company I work for, I'll never be rid of windows, but, I really do like how my Mac works.

Update: I plugged in my ergonomic keyboard/mouse and they work fine. I've installed Virtual PC for MAC and installed Access and that works even faster (with an emulator, no less) than on my 3ghz PC! I've been doing everything to avoid calling Belkin and Apple about the wireless, but I'm almost to that point (you know us guys, we have to exhaust every other avenue before we'll ask for directions...lol)

Merry Christmas

Well, I was asked to give a short sermonette tomorrow for Christmas and of course, I accepted. I've decided to take some creative license and extrapolate a lot of meaning from the few verses in the Bible about Jesus' earthly father, Joseph. I just hope I don't offend people because I'm taking some real speculative moves here (although I believe I am probably on the right track). Anyway, I hope you all have a great Christmas and holiday season.

A reminder of my life came on the radio today....

Whenever I feel blue, something on the radio usually is the trigger, and today, this was it...

Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song --BJ Thomas

It's lonely out tonight
And the feelin' just got right
for a brand new love song
Somebody done somebody wrong song

Hey, wontcha play another
somebody done somebody wrong song
And make me feel at home
while I miss my baby,
while I miss my baby

So please play for me
a sad melody
So sad that it makes
everybody cry-y-y-y
A real hurtin' song
about a love that's gone wrong
'cause I don't want to cry all alone

Hey, wontcha play another
somebody done somebody wrong song
And make me feel at home
while I miss my baby,
while I miss my baby

So please play for me a sad melody
So sad that it makes
everybody cry-y-y-y
A real hurtin' song
about a love that's gone wrong
'cause I don't want to cry all alone

Hey, wontcha play another
somebody done somebody wrong song
And make me feel at home
while I miss my baby,
while I miss my baby

(Hey) wontcha play (wontcha play)
another somebody done somebody wrong song
And make me feel at home
while I miss my baby,
while I miss my baby

(Hey) wontcha play (wontcha play)

another somebody done somebody wrong song
And make me feel at home
while I miss my baby,
while I miss my baby
